Let's Do This

Today, I completed the DBA (doing business as) or Fictitious Name to Sapphire Lucy Designs. I am embarking on an entirely new adventure. Sapphire Lucy Designs is a real business now. I still don't know if I will sell any products or not, but at least I have the option to explore this with more intent.

The filing was $35 an the required publication of the DBA in a local newspaper was $40. I chose the Pasadena Weekly because they were the cheapest of all the area newspapers. Glendale News Press was $110. Since the filing and registration fees are at this time are just another cost of pursuing a hobby with perhaps no real avenue to recoup the losses, I was not keen to spend anything more than necessary.

Next steps is to see what the next steps are for setting up a hobby business. So the question is why am I doing this. Well, first off, the thought of registering Sapphire Lucy Designs has been knocking around for a while. It is one more thing off my to do list and that mental space can be used by something else. Secondly, I have hopes that by the time I retire, I will have established Sapphire Lucy Designs as a brand that can supplement my retirement income and provide me with meaningful activities when my day to day job no longer occupies most of my time. And perhaps most importantly, I need something for myself, I need to know that I am stretching my boundaries and exploring alternatives. Since my work life at this time is not providing the stretch opportunities I need to thrive, I need to find them someplace else.

Here's to taking the first step on a new path.
