Forming a Vision

Updated: Aug 18, 2022

I recently got The Conquer Kit and Conquer Your Year: The Ultimate Planer to Get More Done, Grow Your Business, and Achieve Your Dreams by Natalie MacNeil. These came into my possession quite by accident and as a result only cost me $2 (can I write this off as a bu

siness expense?) I was sorting through donations for the Friends of the Library and ran across them. I love it when the universe aligns with me.

The first task is to create a vision. This is standard practice and I have done vision sessions before--heck I have led visioning sessions again. But it is a reminder that we need to start fresh. The is some scientific logic to creating the vision due to how our brain accesses and processes information. When I have a few more minutes than I have now I will review this info and share it.

This morning during my walk at Descanso Gardens with my camera, I began pondering what is my vision for where I will be at a year from now? As I as squatting down to take a photo, I realized one of the places I want to be a year from now is more comfortable in my body so that I can move easily while taking photos. I don't want my body to get in the way or limit me. So two things need to happen, I need to drop at least 50 pounds and I need to gain more flexibility. I will have to track and see how this new facet to why I should regain a healthy vehicle makes a difference in how I make my choices. A year from now, I want to be able to post a photo showing me in photography gear ready to conquer mountains.

The next thing I considered was that I want to learn enough of the technical side of photography that I am not constantly feeling like an imposter. But I also want to learn it because I want to be able to capture the photos that I see in my mind's eye and even more so to be able to envision photos that I can't see now because I don't know how to create them. So a year from now, I want to have enough technical skills that when I review this post, I can say that it was a successful vision.

In the next year I want to learn enough about starting and running a small business that when I am ready to make the transition I will be confident in my knowledge and will not run afoul of pesky little things like the tax collector.

I'm out of time now, I have a busy day ahead that includes working at another library this evening. Since the first part of my vision means making better choices with food, I need to fix a healthy meal to take with me for at least one of the two left in the day.
